Ayrshire’s newest classic links course near troon was opened in 2003 with its undulating greens and with a yardage of 7,100 yards it has already played host to a number of high profile events.
Opened for play in 1892 designed by Willie Park a open championship winner, he was not a believer in sloping greens and “blind” shots but let the landscape produce the course leaving the heather and gorse untouched leaving the 6,900 yard course playing as it did when it first opened. In 2012 it will host both the Home internationals and The Amateur Championship.
A true links course with the wind coming of the Firth of clyde, undulating terrain and greens nettled in the folds of the sand dunes what could be a better test of pure links golf.
The original site of the first open Championship held in 1860 the course has changed little over the intervening years apart from adding 6 extra holes from the original 12 used back in 1860 and still plays the way the old master such as Tom Morris found it with its blind shots and tight fairways.
A true parkland course built in the 60’s by J.R Stutt. With its thousand of mature trees and with its creative and opportunistic mounding the course has acquired an attractive character enjoyed by those who play it.
Built 1851 with old Tom Morris as one of the founder members a challenging and tight links course of 6,044 yards par 69, with the course following the coastline the wind will always be a true companion as you play on the course.
Dates back to 1951 and with a par 71 along with renowned Scottish hazards of heather, gorse and wind the course was recently rated the 4th most difficult in Scotland to play to your handicap
Is predominately a links course, its lay out is varied with the “Dovecot Section” providing a parkland type course with the remaining holes similar to the championship course just down the next fairway.
Is regarded as the best municipal course in the u.k. designed in 1927 by James Braid who produced a classic course with natural landscape and spectacular views over to the Isle of Arran, a true test of golf.
A classic parkland course with its tight testing greens and well placed bunkers were accuracy is rewarded. It will test the skills and talent of even the most experienced golfer.
